Welcome Bircan: Anatolia Woman Devoting Her Life's Work to the Future of Our Planet

For more than three decades, Bircan has worked to promote dialogue, education, cultural understanding, and civic engagement through media, publishing, and international initiatives.

She is also the author of five books and serves as Head NGO Representative to the United Nations Department of Global Communications Civil Society Organization network.

Since our interview in 2024, Bircan's work has continued to expand on the international stage.

Through her organization, Light Millennium, she has participated in global conversations on peace. 

Her efforts have taken her to conferences and events around the world, including recent engagements in China and at the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France.

Huzhou University (Huzhou, China) is known for the TWO MOUNTAINS THEORY, which states, "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets."

In 2024, Bircan visited China through collaborations with academic and environmental organizations. Her visit reflected her long-standing belief that education, environmental stewardship, and global dialogue are interconnected.

These international exchanges have helped strengthen partnerships that support her vision of a more peaceful and sustainable world.

While many people think of peace, education, and environmental issues as separate subjects, Bircan sees them as deeply connected.

Her advocacy for compulsory peace education begins with a simple idea. If future generations are taught the value of peace from an early age, societies will be better equipped to address challenges ranging from conflict to environmental protection.

For Bircan, building a culture of peace is not only a social responsibility, but an investment in the future of our planet.

The name Bircan is often translated as “One Life” or “One Soul.”

Throughout our conversation, we were reminded that behind every organization, every conference, and every international initiative is a person with a unique story and a deep sense of purpose.
